JOB PURPOSE The core purpose of the Head of Primary is to provide professional leadership and management for the staff and students of the school. Along with other senior leaders, the HoP is responsible for evaluating the school’s performance to identify the priorities for continuous improvement and raising standards; developing policies and practices and ensuring all resources are efficiently and effectively used to achieve the school’s aims and objectives. The HoP will take full responsibility for the day to day management and leadership of the school. KEY RESULT AREA Leading in Learning and Teaching Assessment, Tracking and Data Analysis - Review and revise the annual cycle of assessment to ensure it continues to meet the needs of our students. - Communicate assessment processes and expectations, including pertinent dates and arrangements, to all staff. - Communicate with parents as a whole and where needed, on an individual basis, regarding assessment arrangements. - Lead the use of iSAMS and It’s learning as our pupil progress tool. Ensure staff are trained in the effective use of iSAMS and It’s Learning. - Develop additional tracking tools as agreed appropriate with PLT and Primary staff. - Analyse data to drive improvement and progress in the Primary school. Use data to plan interventions with relevant HoYs. - Oversee external examinations for individual pupils as needed. - Report on student progress and attainment as required to NAE. Reports and Consultations - Oversee the production, writing and sending of reports. - Review and revise report proformas to ensure continued fit for purpose. - Manage the organisation, format and content of Parent-Teacher Consultations Teaching - 8 – 10 hours of teaching per week either to provide release time for HoYs or Curriculum Leaders or to lead intervention groups. - Responsible for the standard of teaching and learning in Years 4 – 6. - Supporting staff in Years 4 – 6 with annual events such as Y6 Transition, Plays in a Week etc. Operational Expertise & Resource Management Teaching Assistants - Oversee the management of Teaching Assistants in Years 1 – 6 including appointing new TAs, performance management, professional learning and year group allocation. Event Organisation - Manage the schedule of rotas, communications, room bookings etc for annual / special events After School Activities - Responsible for the management of the ASA programme in Primary including allocating staff to ASAs, compiling the ASA options, monitoring quality of the ASAs and student attendance, liaison as necessary with key Secondary staff. Curriculum Trips and Residentials - Oversee the yearly schedule of curriculum and residential trips, monitoring the communication with parents. - Ensure all risk assessments have been performed and the required trips’ forms completed in a timely fashion. Professional and Personal Development – Contribution beyond the Classroom and on-going Professional Development - Contribute positively to the morale and community spirit in the school; - Work effectively in different teams; - Assist in whole school marketing initiatives and contribute to the growth of the school; - Operate at all times within the stated policies and practices of the school; - Maintain an up to date knowledge of good practice in teaching techniques; - Be proactive in seeking out opportunities for own professional learning and sharing effective practice and knowledge gained with colleagues - Assist in the training and development of colleagues - Be a visible presence in school and willingly support school events out of hours - Proactively explore ways to add strategic value to the school offer for students, parents and staff PERSONAL SPECIFICATIONS – Skills Knowledge and Experience - Qualified to degree level or above - Qualified Teacher status - Evidence of senior leader training / qualifications - Proven track record with at least four years’ management experience - Experience of working with EAL students - Demonstrable evidence of innovating and adapting curricula - Experience of delivering a UK style EYFS/Primary Curriculum - Experience of working in partnership with parents - Excellent oral and written communication skills - An effective communicator with parents, staff and students
